Pre-Reading Activities
A: What Do You Think?
Discuss these statements in pairs or small groups. Which do you agree with and which do you disagree with?- As a team member, you should always follow the instructions of your coach or team captain. If you have been clearly told to do something, you do it, you don't follow your own ideas.
- Whilst a team is committed to a common aim of winning, individual team members should be encouraged to aim to achieve their own personal goals.- If you are in a sports team, you should be committed to your team. You are not playing for yourself, but for your team. Anyone who is not committed to this ideal should not be part of the team.
- Professional sport and amateur sport are very different in their aims, and whilst teams in professional sport always have their eye on the winner's trophy and rewards, amateur sports teams play for enjoyment. Winning is not the most important thing.
