"What do 'Kayak'..." Today's Top Teaching
Tips! - "My students are intolerant of others." * Try
doing a series of International study topics. * Get guest speakers/students
to present positive aspects of their culture in a workshop. * Examine the issue
objectively, and then get students to write a critical examination of their own
attitudes. * Attend or organise multi-cultural events as a class. NEW
RESOURCES Instant Workbook - FIFA Soccer World Cup from 31 May 2002 There
are two new Instant Workbook (tm) exercises that you can give to your students
based on the lessons and weekly warmer! Available from 22 May 2002 Pre-Intermediate
- "Global Aging" In the next 50 years, the number of people
above 60 years of age will more than quadruple from about 600 million to almost
two billion people, United Nations' figures show. UN Secretary-general Kofi Annan
says the world must get ready for an explosion in numbers of old people that will
put severe strain on poor countries. (International issues, aging populations,
use of 'expect', 'hope', 'want' and 'would like'.) Available 22 May 2002 Intermediate
- "World Cup 'Sickness'" A British Internet site has offered
World Cup soccer fans an ingenious range of ways to duck out of work. (Soccer
World Cup, taking 'sick' days, making excuses, dictionary skills, multi-word verbs,
soccer vocabulary and crossword.) Available 22 May 2002 Upper-Intermediate
- "Child Support" Italy's highest appeals court has decreed that
fathers must carry on supporting adult children until they find a job to their
liking. This was in the case of a son who is in his 30s, has a university law
degree, lives in one of the smartest parts of the Naples, and has turned down
several job offers. (Family, responsibility, supporting children, court cases,
relative clauses.) Available 22 May 2002 Anna Grammar - "Punctuation
- apostrophes and surnames" Gena has asked Anna about adding an apostrophe
to a last name that ends with s or z. Available 22 May 2002 Weekly Warmer
- "World Cup Geography" This is a warm up to the soccer World
Cup which begins May 31, 2002. Available 22 May 2002 Click
here to get the new resources. Self Access - "Congestion
Tax" This week we look at some solutions for the ever worsening traffic
problems facing the world today; public transport and pedal power. You can practise
writing an argumentative essay and answering True, False or Not Given questions. http://www.selfaccess.com
